FOREIGN TRADE ZONE, PORT OF SAVANNAH
Enjoy a Level Playing Field
Lone Star operates FTZ Zone 104 Magnet Site 14 — 140,000 sq. ft. of General Purpose Foreign-Trade Zone space in Savannah, Georgia, just 2.5 miles from Gate 4 of the Georgia Port Authority. The Zone recently transitioned to the Alternative Site Framework (ASF) to meet the business community’s needs on a more timely basis.
Foreign-Trade Zones (FTZs) are designated duty, tax and tariff-free areas. Using an FTZ, a company engaged in international business brings foreign goods onto U.S. soil, paying import costs only if and when they enter the commerce of the United States. For example, a company may choose to
- Store goods until needed without paying inventory taxes, or
- If the goods are parts, use them to manufacture a finished product and export them without paying U.S. import/export surcharges, or
- If the goods don’t meet regulatory specifications, rework and repackage them to meet U.S. import requirements.
The FTZ program creates savings and efficiencies during the import/ export process, thus leveling the playing field for U.S. companies competing in the global marketplace. Consequently, FTZs provide advantages that keep manufacturing and distribution operations in the U.S.
