Lone Star encourages all its drivers to further their careers by participating in our Advancement Program. After all, you earn more by hauling bigger loads. Furthermore, our best drivers enjoy taking on oversize, open-deck challenges.
It’s easiest to move up the ranks in one of our OTR flatbed company driver jobs, which generally are the truck driving jobs that pay the most at Lone Star. However, occasionally, a driver in one of our regional flatbed divisions finds they want to increase pay and job satisfaction by tackling wind blades, construction equipment or other heavy haul freight. In that case, they need only talk to their dispatcher or driver manager about working on the loads required to take them up the ladder.

** The table provides information on OTR company drivers who have been with Lone Star for more than one year. New drivers with little or no flatbed experience start at a base CPM of $0.60. (Their Total CPM, which includes incentives like accessorial pay & bonuses, is higher.) Typically, a new driver advances to Level 2 before their first anniversary. First-year drivers’ total earnings vary depending on how quickly a particular driver moves to Level 2 – or even to Level 3 – before their anniversary date.

Experience pays at Lone Star. OTR company drivers in Lone Star’s career advancement program for more than one year average a Total CPM of $1.71 — top drivers make $126,000+. Of course, that includes your base CPM, plus special incentives like those below — they really add up!
- Both empty AND loaded miles paid
- Guaranteed Pay: We guarantee Lone Star drivers a weekly minimum when you’re available for dispatch – even if we don’t have a load for you.
- Stop-off pay: $25 for any stop you make between the original pickup and final delivery
- Tarp pay: $50
- Toll tags and CAT scale pass
- Quarterly fuel bonus program
- Vacation pay
